Very very basic stuff, more of a proof of concept rather than anything else. None of this is in any state to be released at present, and it's unlikely that we ever will in the interest of preventing cheaters :P

This is footage from an earlier live stream, showing on-the-fly RAM edits of Mario Kart 8. The quality is a tad sub-par because of it, but we hope it's manageable. The mods shown here include:

- Making Moo Moo Meadows play its final lap music immediately
- Making the final lap play no music at all
- Making the lap 1/2 song into the opening camera fanfare
- Renaming Moo Moo Meadows to "Hello!"
- Renaming it again to "Shitty luck course!"
- Renaming Toad's Turnpike to Deathpike...
- Corrupting a font
- Crashing the Wii U
- Altering the Wii U menu fonts

This work is based on the recently released browser exploit by Marionumber1, TheKit and Hykem, along with some additional code that Chadderz wrote to get arbitrary kernel reading and writing, to allow the browser to edit Mario Kart 8's memory on-the-fly.

All of this may not look impressive, but it's merely because we don't even know where to start; we can do anything now, anything at all! Custom tracks, custom songs, you name it. We just have to decipher the RAM and work out how.

I hope you enjoy this quick look into what we've been up to recently, and hopefully more to come soon!

M = I think we're in for an interesting time, personally.

Once more, I'll stress this: Our work will not go to cheat codes, and if ever released, wouldn't allow cheat codes. Think CTGP, as that's basically what we're going for!

D = Question Bean: Have u ever tried replacing music like for example replacing Moo Moo Meadows music with N64 Moo Moo Farm music (original version)? And ever tried making a MK8 custom track?

M = Well, no. We've only had full access for less than 12 hours, we've tried basically nothing at all tongue5.png

D = I have a question...

In the video description, you mentioned you hacked the game using a browser exploit and a code.

What does prevent other hackers from doing the same? I'm talking about finding the exploit and writting a code. Aren't you basically telling them where to start?

Also, if Nintendo finds out about this.. will a patch fix it?

B = I personally don't care about hacking the game since the online side of it has too many flaws for my taste and I don't see myself playing it for too long but I'm curious about how these things work.

Other hackers could do this; but honestly, we've said nothing that wasn't publicly available already. For example, the browser exploit is public knowledge and has been released for a while now, and there's not a lot we can do to stop it.

What we didn't say is HOW we did what we did. Your average Joe can't do this, the Wii U does have security and the browser exploit on its own is not enough to do any damage whatsoever.

Anyway, Nintendo can patch all this and probably will, and the ongoing battle with Nintendo's updates will begin at that point.

Luigi embarks on a quest to become an astronaut!

Done with the days of keeping his wheels firmly on the ground, Luigi decides to go where no man has gone before: Into space in a flying kart. We don't think it's sensible, neither does he, but it works, astonishingly enough.

So, some of you might be wondering what the heck just happened here. Obviously, it's more hacked shenanigans, some more of mine (MrBean35000vr) and Chadderz's work. This is a hack that allows you to play the ghost of one course on a different one! Specifically, I'm playing a ghost I set on N64 Rainbow Road... but on Rainbow Road. Those observant will realise that this betrays a lot about how the new ghost system works; it's not input based like before. After all, if it was, this ghost would never play back correctly, but it does. The button inputs are likely recorded, but the game users player state and some other things to show where a ghost goes, hence my ghost effectively flies the route of N64 Rainbow Road, showing off some rather neat views of Rainbow Road in the process. We imagine this new ghost system is because of Mario Kart TV, where they need the ability to rewind; a feature that wouldn't be possible with inputs only.

Of course, this has interesting side effects: Any and all hacks are saved into a ghost and will sync on an unhacked MK8. This includes, but is not limited to, item hacks, coin count hacks, lap count hacks, lap split hacks, boundary check hacks, checkpoint mods, etc. For a nice example, monitor my coin count throughout the run. Those coin leaps are saved into the ghost. This makes it EXTREMELY HARD to detect subtle hacks, like miniature speed mods, as the ghosts will still sync. But the more obvious hacks could be pre-detected by Nintendo before the ghost even hit Miiverse, so it's got its advantages. But the competitive TT community could use to know this information for future reference to aid in cheater catching; do not take what you see at face value, even if a ghost syncs on your Wii U.

I've got some more interesting stuff to upload soon, videos will be coming tomorrow.

The music is called "Tricks", which I think is completely appropriate. It apparently comes from a game called "Nameless: The Hackers RPG", which is even more appropriate, although I admit to never playing it. If you want to find the song, go here. http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Box...
The music was inserted in order to avoid potential problems with claims on the original soundtrack :P

Finally, the ghost data is safe on my Wii U and will never hit the Miiverse. Even if it did, it would be deleted anyways :P
Oh, and having any more than 10 coins doesn't make you go any faster. It's the same as having 10.

With that, have yourself a great day, and I'll see you all again soon!
